When Danielle Torgerson of Killeen, Texas rescued a puppy who had been terribly burned, she never dreamed she might be saving her own life.

Danielle was working at a vet’s office when a puppy was brought in to be euthanized after suffering burns to his head and neck. But Danielle just refused to give up on the dog, and made it her mission to get the dog the help he needed.

After a long recovery for the dog, Danielle ended up lying in a hospital herself after a severe motorcycle accident. Although the doctor’s didn’t give her much hope of recovering, she kept thinking of her animals through her coma. When she finally woke up, the first words out of her mouth were the name of her beloved rescue dog, Mr. D.
