From ABC News: When Crystal Lamirande returned to her Santa Monica apartment and found it was on fire, she tried desperately to get to her 10-year old Bichon Frise Shih Tzu mix dog, but couldn’t get through the smoke to find him.

Enter firefighter Andrew Klein, who crawled through the apartment and found Nalu unconscious, just a few feet from the active fire. Klein took the lifeless dog from the apartment and worked for 20 minutes to resuscitate him. Video of the successful effort can be seen on Facebook.

Lamirande had given up hope when she first saw the dog. “His eyes were glazed over and he was not breathing and I assumed he was dead,” she said. “The firefighter said ‘I’m a positive person. Let’s just get him back.'”

After spending 24 hours in an oxygen chamber, Nalu appears to be back to his happy-go-lucky self.

I’m a sucker for a happy ending. Kudos to the firefighters who took so much time to rescue what others might describe as “just a dog.”

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
