Saturday Survey: Ugly Dog Contests

This week, we announced the winner of the 22nd annual Ugly Dog Contest in Del Mar. Although this particular one redeems itself by raising money for local charities, I have mixed feelings about these contests. Overall they look fun, but I have a basic problem with making fun of anyone’s looks. What do you think?

Duke Wins Ugly Dog Contest for Second Consecutive Year

Duke, a Labrador Retriever with a skin condition, has won the Del Mar 22nd Annual Ugly Dog Contest. The event not only celebrates ugly dogs, but also raises money for local charities such as the San Diego Food Bank and Rady Children’s Hospital.

Prizes are given for the ugliest dog, sure, but they also have competitions in other categories like cutest dog, best trick, and dog/owner look-alikes. Continue reading Duke Wins Ugly Dog Contest for Second Consecutive Year
