Part-Time Pooches: Dog Sharing Comes to Vancouver

shutterstock_181097393I’ve always made a big deal both here on the blog and in the articles I write for doggies.com and breeders.net, about how having a four-legged family member is a full-time gig. However, I can see some merit to this dog-sharing idea, particularly for people who need to be away from home for any length of time.

Whether your job takes you out of the house for 8 hours or more each day or if you travel extensively, I can see where it would be neat to share the duties of taking care of a dog rather than worrying about kenneling or finding a friend to stop by every day.

Dog-Sharing Co-Op

Here’s an interesting idea from the west coast: a dog-sharing co-op. If you have a dog, but need to travel, you might have a hard time finding someone to watch the dog. Or, if you want to get a dog, but don’t know which kind you want, you might want to try out a few different breeds before you settle on one.

Either way, a dog co-op might be just what you’re looking for. City Dog Share operates through Facebook, and you simply post your dog’s picture and the relevant details when you need a sitter, or you post the types of dogs you are willing to care for if you’re willing to provide sitting services.

They currently operate groups up and down the west coast including Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Keep in mind, it’s your responsibility to check out the references of the people you’ll be co-oping with. We’ll just assume the dogs are all a-ok.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
