Animal Welfare Takes a Step Back in Texas

From MSNBC: Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is facing criticism after he vetoed animal abuse legislation that bans tethering dogs outdoors using heavy chains or chaining them up without drinkable water and adequate shelter or shade. Abbott says laws already in place were adequate.

I don’t understand the harm in strengthening laws that may not have been specific enough.

Another Overflowing Shelter

I shared several days ago two shelters who were overflowing due to specific situations of hoarding. Now WFAA reports the Ft. Worth shelter is bulging at the seams, but it’s due to too many people voluntarily surrendering their animals because they can’t keep them anymore. So many people, they actually had a line, processing as many as 99 new intakes a day at one point. Continue reading Another Overflowing Shelter

K-9 Loki

LokiFrom the Facebook page of the K-9 Defender Fund: “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog”..Mark Twain

Meet K9 Loki of the Howe, Texas Police Department, where Sgt. Keith Milks and K9 Loki work hard in their community to keep drugs off the streets! Loki is an 8-10 year old Jack Russell/Fox Terrier mix who was picked up as a stray in Cibolo, Texas. The staff of the local animal services department, recognized a great potential in Loki and made sure he was given the training to become certified in narcotics detection. Sgt. Milks and Loki have been a team since early Dec. of 2017. K9DF is pleased to be providing another amazing K9 with an amazing story, the gift of a Buddy Bag. We hope the bag does nothing more than collect dust while in their possession. Here’s to a long, safe, successful and amazing career together you two!

Who knew a little terrier could be a K-9? Kudos to the city of Howe, on looking outside the box to find a big dog in a small body who they could rescue and rehabilitate to a useful function!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog

Betty Walter

To these amazing guys that help me and some of my neighbors dogs that I rescued. I was worried there was too many dogs on the boat and it would tipped over. I told them I would stay behind and for them to make 2 trips. They said NO we are taking all and you. We had 21 dogs on this boat. No place for any humans on this boat. We had to walk in water over my head to get out.

Please I am going to need help if you can donate. paypal.me/betty23

So many people and animals in need. I’m so glad Betty was able to find help to get her dogs out.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
