My almost 12 year german shepard mix was suffering from hip displasia and her heart was failing. This weekend has been so hard. We took her to the vet on Friday, but there was little they could do other than prolong her life maybe for a few weeks. She couldn't stand up any longer. I had to carry her. She wasn't eating.

I made the horrible choice to let her go. I can't get her image laying in the vet str***ling to breath out of my head. This part of dog ownership just sucks.

I've been there more than once. The best remedy? Go to a shelter and find a new love. You'll be amazed how you can get past the loss when you have a new focus for your attentions... one that will accept you with no limitations.
