We adopted a female beagle from Coweta shelter on last day date 6/8/09. On 6/9/09 she tested positive for Heartworms and Erlichia. We can not afford the expense of the medicine, we do not want to dump her back in the shelter in Coweta county. If any one knows of Rescue, Foster home in Ga Cobb Kennesaw area that can help Gracie . How sad . It is a shame the shelter did not do a blood test prior to adopting out your Beagle. Not only would it have saved an unaviodable heart break to you but they have put their entire rescue at risk. Heartworm must be treated and the fact that they did not test the dog they probably didn't provide heartworm preventatie medication to the rest of their shelter dogs. I would not take him back to them but I would request that they provide the treatment to save that little guy's.life If they are a reputable group they should be as shocked as you are and take care of him
