Report on Dog Shelter Surveys

Well, doggies.com fans, I’ve gotta say, I’m a bit disappointed. I think you might be too when I show you the results of the last two Saturday surveys.

The first week, I asked if you had ever adopted a shelter dog. 249 people responded (our best ever poll!), and 145 of you indicated that you had gotten at least one dog from a shelter or rescue. That part is absolutely wonderful!

Then, the next week, I asked what you had ever donated to a rescue or shelter. Only an abysmal 23 people responded, but at least all of them said they had given something.

So, what gives? I would have thought that those of us who love dogs & read this blog would be helping out more. Although it’s admirable that we are adopting strays, it would appear we are not taking any interest in helping those we can’t adopt.

Your thoughts?

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

  1. Well, it seems to me, a dog from the shelter is a good idea to help those needing a second chance on life. But we all have or need latelya second chance on making ends meet in life with being “over-credit” by bills.
I give the shelters “doggie” toys and food and stuff to help out. My heart goes out to those who had to give out their pets. But thats better than just leaveing them behind.

  2. Absolutely. Have an old Eeyore blanket your kids have outgrown? Well, that cute little puppy down at the shelter won’t mind at all. When you move, donate extra linens you don’t want to bring along. Don’t think just money and food. They can use anything. I have a whole bunch of blankets I’m about to bring down to the shelter, just want to wash them first. While adopting the dogs is the first thing I’d want to do, I can’t so I want to help the shelter spend less money buying things I can give them so they can work on reducing the numbers they have to euthanize. It’s not a bad idea.
