Dog Food Recall – Eukanuba & Iams

  • Eukanuba Pure, all sizes and varieties
  • Eukanuba Naturally Wild, all sizes and varieties
  • Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin, all dry sizes
  • Iams Veterinary Dry Formulas, all sizes and varieties

The above dog foods have all been recalled by Procter & Gamble due to a risk that they may be contaminated with salmonella, which causes decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain.  Without treatment, the disease progresses to cause lethargy, diarrhea, fever, or vomiting.  If your dog gets sick, he can pass the joy on to you, so if you feel these symptoms, you should contact your doctor.

The recalled products should be discarded, and you can call P&G at 877-340-8823 for a refund or replacement product.

Here’s the entire press release, if you’re interested.

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!

  1. Blue Buffalo dog food is known to be healthy for dogs because they contain proteins, carbohydrates, fruits & anti-aging nutrients that slow the aging process in dogs & keep them active & healthy.

Carbohydrates are a key source of energy for dogs and cats. Whole grains, like whole ground brown rice, whole ground barley and oats, are excellent low-fat sources of highly-digestible complex carbohydrates.

The most concentrated form of food energy, fats provide more than twice the energy of proteins or carbohydrates. They are also required for absorption and utilization of fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, D, and E. Fats supply fatty acids, which among other things, help to provide a healthy skin and coat and help reduce inflammation.

Vitamins and minerals work together, in conjunction with your pet’s natural enzymes, to help with digestion, reproduction and muscle and bone growth. They are also essential for healthy skin and coat and support immune system health, too.

LifeSource Bits contain a precise blend of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants selected by holistic veterinarians and animal nutritionists. These include ingredients that have been shown to help strengthen your dog or cat’s immune system, support their specific life stage requirements and protect them from the negative impact of environmental toxins.

  2. I think that they should look even deeper into this recall. We have been loyal Iams customers for years. We had a bag of Pro-Active Weight Control that our dogs wouldn’t eat. At first, we were in a hot spell and we assumed that they were not eating because of the heat, but our lab was loosing weight (26lbs total.) He was happy to have treats and was devouring rawhides. We decided to throw away the rest of the bag of food and open a new one. They started eating again, but after a couple of days on that food they both started vomiting. I cleaned up 6 piles of vomit in less than 2 days. We became suspicious of the food, and decided it was time to change brands. They are back to their normal eating habits without incident. We pointed this out to our vet, but she said that at the time there were no Iams recalls.. and then a few weeks later they are having this one. I just wanted to pull attention to it for anyone that might be using the Pro-Active line, especially if you are seeing issues with your dog.

  3. There are some commercial pet foods that contain good ingredients but the challenge is often in the processing – where food can be easily contaminated. One of the safest food choices is making your own homemade dog food using healthy (and if possible, organic) dog food recipes for variety.

  4. Dog food recalls are a scary thing. In 2006 there was a dog food recall, but it gave me a chance to reevaluate what my dog was eating. I was able to compare labels, do some research, and eventually provide a better dog food for my dog.
