Paul posted earlier in the week about how scary it was to see dogs walked off-leash because he was afraid the dog might run off after a squirrel or a cat. What about you? Do you walk your dog off-leash?

I Want You to Love Me Like My Dog
New song from Billy Currington – absolutely hysterical!
The lyrics:
Miracle Dog Survived Gas Chamber and Found a Forever Home!
Daniel, a Beagle mix dog that cheated death by surviving the gas chamber in an Alabama dog pound, now has a forever home in N.J. with Joe Dwyer.
Also known as the “Miracle Dog”, Daniel was put in a gas chamber to be euthanized with several other animals last month. Much to the shelter employees’ surprise, he survived the gassing and emerged relatively unscathed. Photos and more here.
Are “spot-on” flea and tick medications safe?
From NewsNet 5’s On Your Side Investigation: The safety of products like K9 Advantix and Frontline is being questioned, as pet owners have reported spending thousands of dollars to treat their pets after applying the products.
Veterinarian David Koncal, vice president of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), believes spot-on products are safe.
“I’d be willing to bet that 99 percent of the adverse reactions that are reported, there is something else going on in that animal that created that demise. It’s just a coincidence the flea product was used on them,” Koncal said.
He points out that billions of pets are treated with the products, yet only 34,000 have experienced problems.
You can read the whole story here, and a follow-up here.
Talk to your vet before treating your dog with spot-on products, as even the experts can’t agree on whether or not they’re dangerous.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Wednesday’s Wild, Wacky World of Dog News
Dateline: Akron, Ohio. What do you do when a burglar breaks into your house? Of course, you run into a bedroom, call the police, and hide.
Luckily, when this happened to an Akron resident recently, she thought to take her dog with her into the bedroom. As the thief was gathering together the stuff he wanted to take, he wandered into the bedroom where they were hiding…and the dog CHARGED him! The dog chased the burglar out of the home, into the arms of police who had just arrived on the scene.
Good dog! What kind of reward can you give a dog for that kind of help?
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

OFF-LEASH DOGS IN THE CITY – my peeve with owners
Have you ever seen those so-well-behaved dogs that follow their owners around without a leash even in a busy city centre? Their dogs sit at stop-lights, run ahead or behind but never out of sight, and wait at intersections for their masters to arrive. It appears to be any dog-owner’s dream to have such a well-behaved pet, BUT, isn’t it dangerous?
I’ve always been afraid to even TRY that with my dog…… isn’t it JUST possible that an off-leash dog would spot a cat, or squirrel, and just BOLT off into traffic??? Isn’t it just possible that for whatever reason, a dog could suddenly take off and come in harm’s way or attack another animal?
I just think that no matter how well trained a dog is, there’s always that possibility that he could spot something that might trigger a chase reaction! Worse, without a tether, one has NO control over one’s pet.
I personally just couldn’t take that chance with my dog, for her own or someone else’s safety, no matter how convinced she might have me that she’d always stay by me without a leash!!
What do you think????
Tuesday Top Six: Smiling Dog Pictures
Yahoo! News recently asked Flickr users to send in their pictures of happy, smiling dogs. Unfortunately, they didn’t label them, so I don’t have any background information for you. So, we’ll just enjoy the snaps and say thanks to all of you, whoever you are, that shared these.
