Help Retired Military Dogs

This started out as a plea for help for Mex, the dog featured in this video, but it’s turned into a much broader request for all retired military dogs.

You see, up until about a year ago, Mex was patrolling a base in Afghanistan, serving beside our brave men and women in uniform. But when they noticed he was becoming lame, they retired him and sent him to Utica, Ohio, a small town east of Columbus, via the good folks at Military Working Dog Adoptions.

He was adopted by Cheryl and Bob Ross, who were up to the challenge of dealing with his hip dysplasia and canine degenerative myelopathy, which will eventually leave him entirely paralyzed. However, they were short on funds.

Being reasonably innovative, they solicited funds online at a site called GoFundMe.com. They estimated they would need about $2,500, and pledged to give any overage to Military Working Dog Adoptions or the U.S. War Dog Association.

The good news? So far, they have raised $3,305. So, Mex’s care will be fully funded, and there’s still room to give a little to other veteran dogs. Won’t you help if you can?

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

  1. I wanted to thank you for posting the story about my retired military Dog Mex. Unfortunately, Mex lost his battle on November 1st. We were amazed by the response he received. We were able to get him his cart. He only had a few short months to enjoy. Again, thank you for sharing his story.

    In Mex’s memory,

    Cheryl Ross
