Crock Pot Stew for your dog

Chicken stewI haven’t tried this yet, but it sounds pretty good.

Ingredients:
6 pounds chicken thighs, (deboned and skinless)
4 carrots, sliced
1 medium sweet potato, scrubbed and coarsely chopped
2 cups frozen green beans
2 apples, cored and seeded (make sure all seeds are removed)
1 cup frozen peas
2 tablespoons olive oil

Rinse chicken, carrots, and sweet potato, add to the slow cooker along with, green beans and apples. Add just enough water to cover ingredients. Cover and cook on low 8 – 10 hours. Add frozen peas about 20 minutes before the end of cooking time. Using a slotted spoon remove ingredients and place in a large bowl. Once cooled, either add ingredients to a food processor or use a fork and mash the ingredients to desired consistency. Add olive oil and stir to combine. Place stew in freezer safe ziplock bags.

The serving sizes will depend on the size of your dog. Remove individual ziplock bag from the freezer the night before serving and allow to defrost in the refrigerator overnight.

Let me know how it turns out if you try it! I’m going to see if I can get to it this week. (I might even feed it to the kids!)

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

  1. Hi–you may remember me. I’m the one who lives just couple miles south of the Canadian border in the Boundary Waters town of Ely. Used to have another rescue beagle named Brittany whom I had to put down due to a sudden and aggressive advanced liver cancer. Holly was acquired about 7 weeks later; younger and more sociable than Brittany, Holly is too smart by half and is a consummate food thief who is quite silent unless I leave her alone for a grocery run. She then becomes a young Sarah Vaughn scat yodeling the blues. I don’t take Holly for walks: I just open the doors and follow as best I can.
Google messed with my e-mail not once but many times. I have missed the dog-blog. Ran across a print of a Friday Funny : Cross Bred Dogs. “Good stuff, Maynard.”
