Saturday Survey: Dog Cloning

rp_Saturday-Survey-Graphic-350x2331-350x233-350x233-350x2331-350x233-350x233-350x233-350x233-350x233.jpgBarbra Streisand recently announced in a Variety interview that she had cloned her Coton de Tulear Samantha by removing some skin from her tummy and some DNA from her cheek just before Sammie died. The result was four puppies, one of whom died, and one who was given away to a close friend.

Streisand now shares her life with Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, as well as an unrelated dog named Miss Fanny. She says, You can clone the look of a dog, but you can’t clone the soul. Still, every time I look at their faces, I think of my Samantha…and smile.

Not everyone thinks cloning is ethical. Some say it messes with what should only be the purview of God. What say you?

Should Pet Stores Be Required to Sell ONLY Rescue Animals?

Pet Group
From the LA Times: California recently passed a law (AB 485) prohibiting, on and after January 1, 2019, a pet store operator from selling a live dog, cat, or rabbit in a pet store unless the dog, cat, or rabbit was obtained from a public animal control agency or shelter, society for the prevention of cruelty to animals shelter, humane society shelter, or rescue group. Westminster Winner, Rumor, Gives Birth to Eight Puppies!

Westminster Kennel Club is pleased to announce the birth of eight puppies to 2017 big show winner Rumor, the German Shepherd.

Channel 3000 in Madison, Wisconsin has video of the puppies, but wouldn’t let me share it. You can view it on their site.

Owner/Handler Kent Boyles says Rumor is being a great mother to her four baby girls and four baby boys, born in August. Rumor was bred to two dogs, so DNA testing will be required to determine the paternal side of each puppy’s bloodline.

No decision yet on who will raise the pups once they leave Boyles’ Kenlynn German Sheperds kennel, or what their show potential may be.

Congrats to all involved!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

[Editor’s Note: As regular readers of this blog know, I always encourage people to adopt dogs from local shelters rather than buying puppies. However, I also recognize that many of my readers are interested in show dogs or have other reasons for looking at professionally bred puppies. So, I’m happy to present this post telling you why finding a reputable breeder is important.]

That said, here are The Primary Benefits of Choosing a Pet from a Trustworthy Breeder
