Canton, Ohio considering adding laws against animal cruelty

shutterstock_93789841OK, so this is something I didn’t know until I read today’s paper. In the city of Canton (very close to where I live), there are laws about barking, trapping animals, animals running at large, and the number of pets a family may have at one time, but there is no law that makes it illegal to treat your dog badly. Weird, right?

Wounded Dog’s Care Paid for by Wounded Veteran

WCBD-TV: News, Weather, and Sports for Charleston, SC

When Dara, a 6-month old hound mix, was shot seven times and left for dead, she crawled under a house in Hollywood, SC to lick her wounds.

She was found by authorities and taken to a veterinarian, but the cost of her care was likely to be high.

Enter Vincent Bertolini, a Vietnam Vet who remembers how scary it is to be injured and alone. He donated $1,000 to pay for her care, and was recently introduced to the puppy he helped to save. The video above, from Channel 2 in Charleston, tells the sweet story.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

This one hits a little too close to home. Akron, once known as the Rubber City due to the production of tires, is about 20 miles north of my home. Saved from the dumpster

From KSAT 12 in San Antonio: Quick thinking by a couple of bystanders saved this cute Shepherd mix puppy from certain death at the bottom of a dumpster. When they saw a man and a woman throw the puppy, all four legs duct-taped together, into a dumpster, the witnesses acted quickly to rescue the dog.

He is now available for adoption at the San Antonio Humane Society, apparently having suffered no ill-effects from the time he spent at the hands of these monsters.

Authorities are looking for the “people” who disposed of the dog so cruelly.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Depraved Indifference

From the Newark, NJ Star Ledger:  When Haniyyah Barnes got upset with her neighbor because of a shared driveway parking dispute, she went ballistic.  Unfortunately, she turned her anger on a Shih Tzu owned by the neighbor, who came to the defense of her owner after Barnes broke into their home.  In a rage, Barnes grabbed the dog by the throat and threw it into oncoming traffic.  The little dog was struck and killed.
