Tuesday Top Eight: Life Lessons As Taught By Boxers

Gem, from Adopt A Boxer Rescue

From our good friends at Adopt A Boxer Rescue in West Hartford, CT:

1. If you stare at someone long enough, eventually you’ll get what you want.
2. There is never an inappropriate time for licking
3. Don’t be afraid to poke or paw at your first choice
4. Naps are better with someone (or better yet, ON someone)
5. A sad look will get you further than a tantrum
6. The best food going in makes the worst smell coming out
7. When you love someone, you should be excited EVERY time you see them
8. If it’s not wet and sloppy, it’s not a real kiss.

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!

Urgent Adoption Request from Greencastle, IN

From HSPCAnimals.org:

It is with extreme sadness that we announce that the shelter will be closing on September 30, 2011.  We have been instructed that all animals are to be placed by the 30th or be euthanized.

Any animal at the shelter that is already spayed/neutered will be adopted out with a “choose your own adoption fee” special. Those not spayed/neutered will be adopted out with an adoption fee to cover the costs. ALL adopted animals will be s/n before going home. PLEASE help us place these animals!

Between now and the end of September, the shelter will be open Tuesday and Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions.

Financial donations are still desperately needed to cover costs through the end of the month, in addition to covering debts.

When I checked at PetFinder this morning, there were 5 dogs and 23 cats left in need of a home.  Please help if you can!  Contact info:  765.653.5739 or [email protected]

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!

Invisible Fence’s Project Breathe

Kudos to the Invisible Fence Company. In addition to providing a solution to the problem of keeping pets safe at home when your subdivision doesn’t allow fences, they are making donations to many fire departments of pet breathing masks. These masks, which were originally used by vets to give anesthesia, are being repurposed to deliver oxygen when a dog suffers from smoke inhalation in a house fire.

Dog Rescued from Down Under

What a heart-warming story out of Boise, ID! Truck driver Glen Farrell sometimes takes his Jack Russell Eddie with him on his runs. I bet this will be one trip they’ll never forget!

Eddie got loose and was running through a nearby pasture when he fell into an irrigation distribution box and ended up 30-feet below the surface.

It took 19 hours, but they finally were able to cut a hole in the pipe and free Eddie. I’m thinking the next stop should be Earthdog trials!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
