Jagger, as seen on co-owner Dee Milligan-Bott’s Facebook page.
On a week when I had hoped to report mostly on the Iditarod, I have to bring you the sad news that Jagger, a prizewinning Irish Setter, was killed by poisoning while being benched during the 2015 Crufts Dog Show in London. Continue reading Murder Mystery at Crufts 2015 Dog Show→
Congratulations to the 15-inch Beagle, The Divine Miss P, on winning Best in Show at the 139th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. And to Skye Terrier Charlie, who took Reserve Best in Show.
The Beagle wins it! The Beagle wins it! Oh my God, the Beagle wins it!!!
Thanks to everyone at WKC and AKC for putting on such a great show!
First of all, I have to say there is absolutely no science or politics behind my selections. I mostly pick dogs whose names I like from my favorite breed(s) within each group. That said, here’s who I like to win this year’s Westminster prizes. All of the photos come from the breeders’ websites.
***Please note: This has been updated as of 2/16 at 9:15 am – some of the dogs I picked originally did not come to the big show! I had to change to dogs that appear in the official list when I got on-site.***
From the Sporting Group: Tamaron’s Tag You’re It. Of course he’s a Vizsla, what else would I pick?
Fox Sports has now posted the winning run at the 2015 Master’s Agility Competition at Westminster from last night. I don’t want to spoil the surprise or anything, but a Border Collie won.
Sorry – couldn’t get the video to embed on here, so you’ll have to follow the link above to watch the video. This dog was pretty amazing!
More random photos from the lobby of the Hotel Pennslyvania. The mighty GSD. I asked why they are always shown in a crouch, and the owner said he thinks it portrays them as “ready to go”.
I’ve made a couple of new human friends here at Meet the Breeds. If you want more information and MUCH better pictures from today, check out Newsday.com. Their photographer is also posting on Instagram, but I don’t know the handle (or whatever it’s called on Instagram – not something I ever do.)
And if your TV gets NY’s Channel 9, there will be a feature during the 10 pm Eastern hour on Monday night.
I’ve arrived at the press room for Piers 92 and 94, where there are two events going on today: The Masters Agility Championship and the AKC Meet the Breeds event.
This is the first time both events have been held at the same time as the big dog show, and the crowds are tremendous! Last night in the hotel lobby, it was pretty funny because a lot of people didn’t know that Westminster was this weekend, and they couldn’t figure out why everyone had a dog with them! The 2 Boxers shown above waited so patiently in the check-in line. Such good dogs! Continue reading Westminster 2015, Day One: Agility and Meet the Breeds→
NYC has been exciting so far! With all the traffic between people getting ready for Westminster 2015 and people there for the NBA All Star events, the Hotel Pennsylvania is packed to the gills! An hour in the check-in line alone!
Which was good because it gave me a chance to snap a few photos. Unfortunately, my camera did NOT like the light in there, so these aren’t great, but it will give you a flavor of the place.
