My interest in the Iditarod is peripheral … I reckon several of the dogs running may have cone from here about. Ely, Minnesota is still the home of Will Steger and Paul Schurke. Schurke has a business of providing year-round dog sled travel–by appointment–for those who seek that experience. (In summer the “sleds” are wheeled.)
Seems like most of the homes in Ely have Labs as the Huskies and Malamutes require the capacity for focused on-going training.
