Bark once for guilty, twice for not guilty

If you break the law in South Jersey, you may have a dog on your jury panel. I’m trying to figure out if this meets the standard of having a jury of your peers.

When Barrett Griner IV added a German Shepherd to his family, he thought it would be neat to make a play on the Roman numerals at the end of his name, so he named the dog IV (pronounced like the plant). However, the Cumberland County courthouse apparently entered Griner’s information into their computer system incorrectly, so that IV ended up as the first name, and when it came time to assemble a jury, the summons went out to IV Griner.

So, all of you scofflaws in South Jersey need to watch out not only for police K-9’s, but also jury K-9’s.

Griner apparently got it all straightened out. I, on the other hand, would have shown up with the dog in tow for duty on the date shown on the notice, just for yuks and giggles.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
