Tallapoosa County dogfighting case is finally over

rp_Pit-Bull-350x233.jpgWe reported several months ago on the dogfighting case in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. More than 30 dogs were seized from three homes by law enforcement officers and Humane Society investigators, while 25 dogs had been seized earlier as part of an investigation into drug trafficking.

Nearly all of the dogs have since been rehomed after an extensive socialization process to teach them how to be loved. (And just how sad is that?)

The last defendant has now been sentenced. Roderick Sweetwyne, Jennifer Kelley, Sonja Benson, Erick Calhoun, and his brother Justin Calhoun had previously received between three and five years, and now Delcarios Holley will be joining them at the greybar hotel for three years.

So, as usual, the creeps who kept dogs under conditions the Humane Society investigator described as “horrific” have to serve what I would consider minimal time. But I suppose it’s better than nothing.

And I am glad the dogs were able to be rehabilitated and placed into what I can only hope are good homes.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
