When two-and-a-half year old Ludivine wandered out of her Elkmont, Alabama, yard, she never imagined she’d take part in an official footrace. Runner’s World reports the Bloodhound mingled with 165 runners in the parking lot and at the starting line, and when they began to run, she kept pace.

Being a Bloodhound, she of course went off the track to follow her nose to a dead rabbit and to meet other dogs along the course, but she came back to the runners each time, making Tim Horvath her running partner. Tim, and presumably other runners, assumed that the dog belonged to one of the other runners and just accepted her presence in the race.

Ludivine crossed the finish line at 1:32:56, good for 7th place, to the surprise of her mom, April Hamlin. “She’s laid back and friendly, so I can’t believe she ran the whole half marathon because she’s actually really lazy,” Hamlin said after receiving texts from friends of hers at the finish line.

As a person who runs only to the bathroom in an emergency, I salute you, Ludivine!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
