Check the Chip Day is Coming!

August 15th is the day all pet families are encouraged to check their microchips to make sure all information is up to date.A microchip can mean the difference between reuniting with your lost or stolen pet and never seeing them again. Startlingly enough, only 58% of pets’ microchips are linked to the correct owner information.

The most common reasons that microchip information is not up to date are:
o Pets change ownership, often among family members and the enrollment/owner information is not transferred.
o People move and forget to update their pet’s microchip information.
o People have dropped their home phones – relying solely on mobile phone numbers and don’t notify the recovery service about the change.

AKC Reunite, the American Kennel Club’s pet recovery service, urges people this Check the Chip Day to microchip their pet, ask your vet to scan your pet’s microchip at wellness check-ups and make sure your microchip enrollment information is current and up to date.

AKC Reunite has brought home more than 475,000 pets to their owners because of the pets’ microchip.

Learn more about microchipping and enroll your pet today.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
