Nicolas Petit has taken the lead, checking into Anvik at 5:21 (Alaska time) this morning. He has 14 dogs and is running at an average speed of 7.94 mph.

Veteran Mitch Seavey is in 2nd place, leaving Shageluk for the 25 mile route to Anvik at 7:28 this morning after 4-and-a-half hours of rest. He is carrying 13 dogs at an average speed of 7.67 mph.

Early leader Joar Leifseth Ulsom has falled back to 3rd place, leaving Shageluk at 7:42 this morning on just 3 hours of rest. He and his 15 dogs are averaging 7.78 mph.

In fourth place, Richie Diehl checked into Shageluk at 7:25 this morning and remains there with his 13 dogs. His average speed has been 7.13 mph.

Rounding out the top five, Peter Kaiser has been resting in Shageluk since 7:29 this morning with his 12 dogs. His average speed is 6.36 mph.

All of these racers have completed their 24-hour rest period. After Anvik, it’s just 18 miles to Grayling, so I’m guessing at least the top three will get there yet this evening.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
