Barktoberfest in Durham

Annette 1A few pictures from an old high school friend of mine, Annette Smith, who attended Barktoberfest last weekend at Durham Central Park. The event featured a costume contest, photo booth, canine food drive, an interactive trick dog show presented by Dare Devil Dogs, fun walk, pet market, adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues, and even a performance by the Duke University Wind Symphony and the Durham Community Concert Band!

Annette says the parks there are big on dog recreation. They just opened a 4th dog park funded by a grant from PetSafe to the Durham Parks Foundation.

North Carolina House Passes Legislation to Stop Animals Being Left in Hot Cars

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photography-dog-car-little-cute-maltese-front-seat-image31723682Although not yet passed by the NC Senate, a law working its way through state government would make North Carolina the 15th state to have a law regarding animals left alone in vehicles. The other 14 states on the list (AZ, CA, IL, ME, MD, MN, NV, NH, NJ, NY, ND, SD, VT, and WV) specifically outlaw the practice of leaving an animal unattended in a parked vehicle. However, only some states allow rescuers to get the animal out, while others make no provision for rescue.
