By now, you’ve no doubt seen video of the building collapse in Surfside, Florida. What you may not know is how experienced the Miami-Dade Search and Rescue teams are. This isn’t their first rodeo, so to speak.

As part of Miami-Dade’s Fire and Rescue, the nine FEMA-certified canine teams have responded to disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, bombings, and aircraft crashes all over the world.

They are being assisted in Surfside by other K-9 teams from around the country.

There are also comfort dogs giving hugs and helping keep hopes up at the family waiting center in Surfside.

With rescue efforts hampered by weather and at least one fire, 159 people remain missing in the rubble at last count. Our prayers are with their families, as well as with the first responders who are looking for them.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
