That’s quite a trick.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
I spent a lot of time last night live-blogging the Hero Dog Awards on Hallmark Channel. As you probably know by now, guide dog Roselle was the overall winner. Did you agree with the decision of the judges? As a reminder, here’s a quick summary of each of the finalist Hero Dogs. Continue reading Saturday Survey: Hero Dog Awards
I found this big lump on my dog, Lucy, just inside her back leg. Naturally I panicked thinking it was cancer, so I took her to a new emergency vet (it was a Sunday) and they took a biopsy, blood, urine etc. etc… racked up a bill of 600 dollars. I later got the good news it was just a fatty mass.
At her next regular check up, my vet says “Oh, I see Lucy has a fat deposit on her leg….”. I guess my point is, DON’T PANIC. Although they can be unsightly, they are normally harmless, and there are steps you can take to reduce the size.
Does any one else have experience with these lumps on your dog??
In the US it’s Veteran’s Day Weekend. In Canada, it’s Remembrance Day Weekend. Most of us have some tie that makes us reflect, if even for a moment.
We all know “working dogs” truly love a perfectly executed assignment if only to see a smile on their master. It’s rewarding for them.
We brought you a great video from Military.com about soldiers befriending dogs overseas. Now here’s a special look at the dogs who are working side by side, and actual members of our armed forces.

New York Times Best Selling Author Lisa Rogak has captured the excitement of working dogs in her new book The Dogs of War. It’s an inside look into a very elite, working and special class of dogs.
Congratulations to Roselle for being named the 2011 American Hero Dog!
They have also announced that nominations for the 2012 Hero Dog Awards are now open!
Congratulations to all of the nominees and their humans.
It was a good show, overall, but way too many commercials!
What a great dog! Ricochet surfs with people who have physical disabilities. She not only helps them handle the surfboard, she also raises money to help them pay for their medical treatments – over $125,000 to date!
Congratulations to Ricochet for winning tonight’s Emerging Heroes category.

Another border collie with a purpose. Harley provides ears for his human. When the doorbell rings or the smoke alarm goes off, or even if the oven timer says dinner is ready, Harley alerts his friend to the sound and makes her follow him to the source.
Nancy says she is now able to relax because Harley hears the traffic sounds when they are out walking, helping to keep her safe.
Congratulations to Harley!
Congratulations to Sage for winning the Hero Dog Award in the search and rescue category. She has worked in Iraq, doing both search and rescue work and therapy work for the soldiers.
She actually found the body of one of the terrorists at the Pentagon on 9/11.
She is a beautiful border collie – tons of energy! However, she developed cancer after working around some of the toxins at the Pentagon and in Iraq. She now goes to kids’ cancer camp to provide comfort to kids who are similarly afflicted.
Way to go Sage!
After serving in WWII, this dog was brought home, and to hear them tell it, Rin Tin Tin saved Warner Brothers Studios from going under. He actually has a star on the walk of fame in Hollywood. And now he wins the Legacy Award!
“The legacy of Rin Tin Tin is love, patience, tolerance, and be happy.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
