From The Dog Lady’s mailbag: AKC Reunite, the largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider in the United States, is pleased to announce the 50th deployment of its AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers. These life-saving trailers donated to local emergency management teams through the AKC Pet Disaster Relief program are available to dispatch to any local disaster scene that needs assistance sheltering pets. AKC Reunite has also provided funds to support the work of organizations that are saving and reuniting pets with their owners during natural disasters. AKC Crowns National Champions in Obedience and Rally

The top dogs in the nation were crowned from an overall combined entry of more than 640 dogs this past weekend at the AKC National Obedience Championship and AKC Rally® National Championship. Competitions were held July 9th-11th, 2021 at the Roberts Centre in Wilmington, OH.

“It was absolutely incredible to watch these outstanding performances as the new National Champions were crowned in Obedience and Rally,” said Doug Ljungren, AKC Executive Vice President of Sports and Events. “These dogs exemplify the very finest in their sports from across the country. We’re thrilled to celebrate the dedication and many talents of these dog and handler teams.”

“We are also grateful to our exhibitors, volunteers, clubs and judges for their support of local events over the past year in exceptionally challenging times,” said Pamela Manaton, AKC Director of Obedience, Rally and Tracking.

Where To Watch AKC Nationals for Rally and Obedience This Weekend

WHAT: Watch the top dogs in the nation compete at the AKC National Obedience Championship and AKC Rally® National Championship live on AKC.tv. More than 640 total dogs will vie for the Champion title in their respective sport during this action-packed weekend.

WHEN: Friday, July 9th-Sunday, July 11th. Live streaming of the event will begin at 8:00am ET each day

WHERE: Competitions will be held at the Roberts Centre in Wilmington, OH. Tune in to watch the live coverage of this event on AKC.tv through your browser or the app.

Calling All Trick Dog Competitors!

Copper’s (Res-CU TKE) submission for the 2020 AKC National Trick Dog Virtual Competition. Copper is a 4 year old PRT found as a filthy and emaciated 8 month old stray in Appalachia. She now performs at local libraries and youth centers and has also performed at the AKC National Championship and the Eukanuba Performance Games.

AKC Agility Premier Cup Winners Announced

If you missed last night’s ESPN broadcast, the AKC is announcing the following winners from their Agility Premier Cup. The competition was held at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida on May 15.

“It was a thrill to see the Agility Premier Cup return this year and to see so many talented dogs compete,” said Doug Ljungren, AKC Executive Vice President of Sports and Events. “These canines are some of the best athletes in the sport and they put on the performances to prove it.”

Over 90 dogs and their handlers participated in this year’s championship. Dogs entered competed in 8”, 12”, 16”, 20”, or 24” jump heights. In line with COVID-19 safety precautions, the event was closed to the public and entry was limited to exhibitors, judges, production crew, and event staff. Other safety requirements included social distancing, temperature checks, wearing face coverings, and sanitizing stations. Continue reading AKC Agility Premier Cup Winners Announced

AKC Agility Premier Cup to Air on ESPN on May 25th

From The Dog Lady’s mailbag: The American Kennel Club (AKC) is excited to announce that the AKC Agility Premier Cup will air on ESPN. The two-hour competition will be televised on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT. The Agility Premier Cup highlights the top AKC agility competitors and consists of three rounds of competition. This broadcast is one of many that will give viewers an inside look at the competitive world of dog sports, after the network signed a three-year agreement with the AKC this past year. Announcing the Top Dogs Virtual Tour! Join us for a FREE virtual tour of this exhibition! Just reserve a free “ticket” and you will be emailed a link to the tour. No donation is required, but always appreciated.

This exhibition takes a closer look at the top ten breeds, examines their histories, and speculates what exactly about them captures the hearts and minds of so many Americans.

The in-person exhibit at the AKC Museum of the Dog in NYC runs from May 6th to August 31st; I’m assuming the virtual tour is the same.
