Shelter Sunday: Jodi / K-9 Freekz Rescue / Grand Island, NE

Jodi NE

Meet Jodi! Now y’all know how I am about those long hound ears. Someone better go snap her up before I make my way out to Nebraska! Here’s what Jodi’s rescuers have to say about her:

Jodi is a new mama that finished weaning her baby. She is now ready for her own forever home! She’s 2 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. She is people and dog friendly, but seems to have a bit of a prey drive with squirrels, so cats and other tiny animals might not work for her home. She is the most kind and sweet girl with her amazing brown eyes! She is kennel and house trained, but not fully vetted yet, as we need to wait for her milk to dry up before her spay.

Jodi is currently a guest of K-9 Freekz Rescue (love the name!) in Grand Island, Nebraska. If you’re lucky enough to be nearby, please contact K-9 Freekz to learn more about Jodi and all of her friends. Call (402) 525-5900, send an email to [email protected] or fill out an online application.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Shelter Sunday: Buddy / Loving Paws Adoption Center / Crocker, MO

Buddy MOMeet Buddy! This senior gentleman is a Chocolate Labrador Retriever mix who is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations. Here’s what his rescuers have to say about him>

Sweet Buddy spent the first years of his life tied outside 24/7 and was finally given to a neighbor when the people moved. His rescuer took him in and found him an awesome home where he lived in luxury till his owner passed away. He is now back with his rescuer and looking for a home to spend his last days again and comfort with lots of love. Buddy is truly one of the sweetest and funniest dogs! He loves car rides, his walks, absolutely loves bully sticks and bones.
He gets a burst of energy and let’s you know when he is ready to have some fun. He jumps and spins around with a little howling, it makes you giggle. He loves everyone, all sizes and ages. He has been with different dogs and cats, but seems to be dog selective especially toward larger dogs.

Buddy is currently a guest of Loving Paws Adoption Center in Crocker, Missouri. If you’re lucky enough to be nearby, please contact Loving Paws to learn more about Buddy and all of his friends.

Shelter Sunday: Luna / HANDDS To The Rescue / Traverse City, MI

Luna MI

Meet Luna! This beautiful girl is extra large, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccines. Here’s what her rescuers have to say about her:

Luna, a 3 yr old female Mastiff/ Boxer mix, weighs 105 lbs. Luna is housebroken and crate trained, she is closer to Mastiff in size and Boxer in personality. This girl can be quite the clown. She loves just about everyone she meets and enjoys going on walks and saying hi, Luna does not realize how big she is and needs to be reminded not to jump on people when greeting them. Tennis balls and rope toys are her favorite playthings, lounging on the couch is great too! While Luna does get along and likes to play with other dogs similar in size, she tends to get jealous if other dogs are getting attention from her humans, so she needs to be the only dog in the home and have regular play dates set up. Shelter Sunday: Heavens Tabetsy / Last Hope K-9 Rescue / Boston, MA

Tabby MA

First of all, I absolutely love the name Heavens Tabetsy! This big old hunk of love is crate trained, good with other dogs, and mostly house broken. Here’s what her rescuers have to say about her:

Heavens Tabetsy (who goes by Tabby) is one of the sweetest and most affectionate dogs you will ever meet. She is also one of the shyest, as she gets very scared around new people and places. Tabby’s first instinct is to run away from what she is scared of, but if that is not an option, she will freeze and occasionally go to the bathroom out of fear. However, once she is comfortable with you, Tabby acts like a normal playful puppy and will shower you with kisses and cuddles! Howdy there folks, my name is Pete! I am a 6 year old gent from the south! I am very friendly and quite an energetic guy who would love to find a home with a big yard and people who will love me forever! I am quite comical, if I do say so myself. Shelter Sunday: Jerry / Give A Dog A Home / Sebec, ME

Jerry ME

Meet Jerry! This good boy was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas. Here’s what his rescuers have to say about him:When JERRY arrived at the rescue in Sebec, Maine on 15th January 2021 he was very shy and fearful. When in his kennel he would give a warning growl, letting me know he was unsure and uncomfortable at which I respected and left him alone for a while so that he could get settled. I found that when Jerry feels he is cornered he will let you know by growling and when I back off and get to his level he gets more relaxed and will come up to smell and get his ears scratched. When cleaning his kennel I would make sure he was inside before I cleaned outside as this is where he felt the most threatened and trapped. After a few days he and his kennel neighbour had gotten into each others kennel and were sharing the elevated dog bed and his demeanor instantly changed, him obviously gaining confidence through the happy-go-lucky Sophie.

After a few days Sophie was adopted and Jerry had to get used to being in the kennel on his own, his affection for me was great, there was no more fear and he was becoming very attached. Jerry had a meet and great with a GSD experienced family, but when I took him out to meet them, he again became very fearful and only wanted to be near me. After a few minutes we decided that putting him back in the kennel and spending time with him through the gate might help, however, it just seemed to escalate his fear and his fearful growling, turned into barking and we both agreed that he was not ready for his new home yet – more so with the family having a small child and not being able to dedicate and commit to the training and work he will need.
