I know that divorce isn’t a happy time for anyone, but this just goes beyond the pale. When Jamie Carpentier and his wife split up, she got custody of the dog AND GAVE HER AWAY! I can’t tell you how angry that makes me, but I digress.
The couple who took 3-year old Ginger kept her for about ten years, but then gave her to a shelter when they became unable to care for her any longer. The shelter listed the dog on their website as a “13-year old Basset Hound named Ginger,” noting that she was an “older girl” with a lot of “spunk” left.
Jamie Carpentier had been living with a Boxer, and when that dog died he swore he was done with dogs. When he saw the ad from the shelter about a month later, he thought it couldn’t possibly be Ginger, but he couldn’t stop himself from checking it out. He e-mailed the shelter, and they sent him pictures of Ginger which he compared to the pictures he had of her as a young pup. The markings were the same, so he visited the shelter, and sure enough they recognized each other!
So much for no more dogs! Carpentier and his family adopted her and plan to keep her as long as she lives. I would certainly hope so!
