The Animal Channel carries the story of Gumby, a white hound who was found wandering the streets and was taken in by the Charleston Animal Society. Over the course of two years, he was adopted no less than ELEVEN times, but kept either running away from his adoptive homes to return to the shelter (three times) or being returned by his adopters because they could not keep him contained (eight times). Lana, a 3-year old yellow Lab, gained fame as the Saddest Dog in the World when a picture of her in her kennel was widely circulated in 2015. She was adopted after that, but was returned to the shelter less than a year later when she snapped at her adoptive mom. She’s now on a short list for euthanasia due to over-crowding at the shelter and has until May 20th to be pulled from the shelter. Continue reading Do you remember Lana the Labrador?→
A little different take on our Shelter Sunday feature this week.
Sunday afternoons are my favorite time to nap. Maybe that’s why this video struck me so hard today. Here’s what the videographer from Arizona Greyhound Rescue has to say about it: Mr. Fry is a saluki mix from Arizona Greyhound Rescue. He loves to bask in the sun, so he takes his bed with him to a sunny spot for a nice afternoon nap. Mr. Fry also will carry his bed with him to be near his humans if they moved into another room.
I know that divorce isn’t a happy time for anyone, but this just goes beyond the pale. When Jamie Carpentier and his wife split up, she got custody of the dog AND GAVE HER AWAY! I can’t tell you how angry that makes me, but I digress. Continue reading Reunited and it feels so good…→
Re-posting on the off-chance that this is actually true – you never know! On Feb. 13, a dog, identified by only his given number, A441782, was taken to the San Bernardino, Calif., city animal control.
The dog was brought in by the local police as a stray, but he has an owner, and right now, the public’s assistance is needed to help identify that man, and to help get him back to the facility to claim his dog. Continue reading Hey Mister: Go Get Your Dog→
I just love it when I can refer you to one of my favorite blogs, the one associated with The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC.
They recently carried the story of KC, an Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix who was found riding on top of a boxcar! Animal control officers used a forklift to lower the dog to the ground, and he is now up for adoption from the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
