Maverick: From Rescue to Westminster

I know I posted a story about this during the Westminster show, but I don’t think I’ve mentioned it since the book came out. This beautiful Weimeraner was rescued off of Craig’s List. After lots of TLC, he competed at the 2012 Westminster show last January. Check out Maverick’s Facebook page or buy his inspiring biography on Amazon.

I think Mitt Romney took his dog for a car ride again

The Associated Press is reporting today that animal welfare authorities in Rhode Island are saying that a “fluffy white pooch” survived a trip from Massachusetts wedged under the front grill of a Toyota sedan. The driver apparently didn’t even know the dog had been hit and was wedged under the grill until a motorist in East Providence pointed her out.

So, if you live somewhere in Massachusetts & are missing a female poodle mix, please call authorities and let them know that your dog did NOT have permission for a road trip! BTW, your dog is now suffering a concussion and maybe a bladder rupture, but is otherwise no worse for wear.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Top Ten Tuesday: Here’s Your Sign, Version Dog.0

Has anyone else noticed the disturbing trend of making dogs hold signs while they have their pictures taken for Facebook or other online sites? Here are some of the best, brought to you by my sister-in-law, Phyllis. Please note, she couldn’t stop at ten, so this is a bonus week! Click on the thumbnails to see them large enough to read without your glasses. (By the way, they’re on top of your head, if you can’t find them.)

Saturday Survey: College Mascots

I sat here today and watched my alma mater Kent State’s Golden Flashes and my Ohio State Buckeyes win their football games today, and I got to thinking about what horrible mascots both of these are. (What is a golden flash, anyway?)

Lots of schools have really cool dogs as their mascots (the Collie named Reveille at Texas A&M, and the former racing Greyhound at Eastern New Mexico and the Bluetick Coonhound at Tennessee, for example), but there seems to be four main breeds represented. Which one do you think makes the best team mascot / school representative?

Can You Guess the Breed?

VetStreet today ran an article on the importance of correctly identifying the breeds that make up a mutt. It can have drastic implications for insurance and for the application of breed-specific bans or other legislation. Studies have found that even experts are often wrong when trying to identify the breeds that make up a mixed-breed dog. Aside from my interest in the article, I thought it was fun to make a guess about the pictured dogs. I have to say I was wrong on most of them. How many can you get right at this link?

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
