From the Police K-9 Association here in Ohio: It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our own K-9 ACHES. [long A: A-keys]

Recently, Aches (4.5 years old) had fallen ill. After dedicated care at home, and travel to Columbus for expert advice, it was determined that he had an inoperable tumor on his spine.

Aches was one of the rare and special K-9s in that he was 100% work; however, when he was at home he was 100% a family dog. He leaves behind his dedicated partner, best friend, and Dad, Investigator McGilton, as well as his loving momma and his human sister. Continue reading RIP K-9 Aches

NBC in Los Angeles is reporting that Police K9 Credo was killed during a standoff in Long Beach California on Tuesday, police said. The standoff involved a man wanted in connection with a deadly weapons case.

Credo was rushed to a veterinary hospital, where his death was confirmed.

Pictures from the scene include Credo laid out on the ground and being carried to the squad car. I couldn’t bear to post them. Credo does not appear to be wearing a vest, but I’m not sure whether one would have helped him or not because the article doesn’t say where he was shot.

Rest well, Credo. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Poor Barney. He was just doing his job, sniffing out drugs for the Tacoma Police Department, participating in what would become one of the city’s largest drug busts ever. Unfortunately, the Tacoma News Tribune is reporting that he accidentally sniffed some methamphetamine up his nose and has died. The 11-year old black lab had served with the department since 2010.
