We have our Christmas tree in the living room, behind a baby gate, to keep the dogs out of it. We started this after the time they ate a glass bulb and I had to make mashed potatoes to coat the shards…on a day when I was already preparing a special dinner for 27 friends and relatives.

Shaka: Once a Shelter Dog, Now a Police Dog

Shaka, an American Staffordshire Terrier, was abandoned by her owner to New York’s death row several years ago, but she was rescued before they had a chance to euthanize her. She found new purpose as a police dog and is now a key weapon in the Milwaukee PD’s war on drugs, where she was successful in 18 of her first 20 searches.

Riding the Rails with K.C.

I just love it when I can refer you to one of my favorite blogs, the one associated with The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC.

They recently carried the story of KC, an Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix who was found riding on top of a boxcar! Animal control officers used a forklift to lower the dog to the ground, and he is now up for adoption from the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
