Prayers for my dog Maggie

I have a favor to ask of you.  I found a lump under my 8-year old Golden Retriever’s chin last weekend.  The vet took a biopsy yesterday and said it looks suspicious, so she is having surgery tomorrow (4/9/09) to have it removed.  I am so worried she has lymphoma.  We’ve already lost one dog to that, and I’m not sure I can bear to lose another.

Please keep her in your thoughts.

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!

Dog to star in “House” TV show?

If you’ve never seen the TV show House, it centers on a crabby doctor named Gregory House, who has exceptional diagnostic skills.  Of course, he’s wrong about 3 times and nearly kills every patient before he stumbles on to the right diagnosis, but I digress.  Anyways, according to a story on MSNBC.com, many dogs combine their keen sense of smell with their intuition and daily observations of us to be able to tell when something is wrong.

Saturday Survey: Iditarod = Dog Cruelty?

With the death of 6-year old sled dog Victor at this year’s Iditarod, animal activists are again calling for the Iditarod to be shut down.  On the other side, people say that these dogs are happiest when they are running and are, in fact, bred to run.  In addition, the argument goes, there are over 900 dogs competing, and the loss of 1 or 2 dogs over a two week period, is probably no different than in the general population.  So, what do you think?  Should the Iditarod be stopped because at least one dog dies every year?

Can You Help Tigger Fight Canine Cancer?

Received this information from Kathy DeRay, who is trying to save her dog, Tigger, a second time.  After rescuing Tigger 3 years ago, she is now trying to help him survive liver cancer, but as you can imagine, it is quite expensive.  If you can help her with even a small donation, please visit her fundraising site.

Those of you who are regular readers know I lost my Beagle mix, Molly, to lymphatic cancer many years ago, and more recently lost my Coonhound/Lab Mix, Tracy, to cancer of the jaw.  In both cases, they did not respond to any of the treatments we tried, but it looks like Tigger may have a chance.  Maybe if we can help Kathy raise the funds she needs, she won’t have to go through the heartbreak so many of us have experienced.

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!
