Saturday Survey: What Has Your Dog Destroyed?

Since I posted the picture of the panicked dog who ate through a door yesterday, and since my dear, sweet (HA!) Daisy chewed through my remote control this week, I thought an appropriate question for today’s survey would be to ask about what your dog has chewed or destroyed.

I can remember my dad saying our collie, Lady, nearly chewed the legs off of the picnic table when she was a pup. My dogs have always enjoyed a good piece of furniture.

OK, to start off, I had to look up what a Capybara is. Here’s what I learned: these large, odd looking animals are actually the world’s largest rodent, basically a great big guinea pig!

Now Cheesecake, the Capybara who lives at Rocky Ridge Rescue in Midway, Arkansas, may be just a little bit more compassionate than the average Capybara. When the new mama dogs at the rescue need a break from their active puppies, Cheesecake gets to babysit. She has apparently done this with several litters of pups, and is quite the good auntie.

Check out the rescue’s Facebook page for lots of pictures featuring Cheesecake and “her” puppies.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog! (or good Capybara, as the case may be)

A Puppy’s Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep
The king-sized bed is soft and deep
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move
I’ve trapped her legs, she’s tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Til morning comes and I want food
I sneak up slowly to begin
My nibbles on my human’s chin
She wakes up quickly
I have sharp teeth
I’m a puppy, don’t you see?
For the morning’s here
And it’s time to play
I always seem to get my way
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night

Wednesday’s Wonderful World of Dog News

Check out this story from Temuco, Chile: when this mama dog and her puppies were caught in a house fire, she simply carried the pups out to the fire truck for safe-keeping! Unfortunately, one of the puppies later died from severe burns sustained in the fire. What a brave mama dog to have kept going back into the fire until all of her babies were accounted for.

Here’s the original story & more pictures on SoyChile.cl, as well as an English summary from Huffington Post.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
