Kudos to Animal Planet

I just need to take a minute to thank Animal Planet for expanding the Puppy Bowl franchise to make it an all day event. Right now, I’m watching them tell the dogs if they’ve made the team or been cut (adopted) before the big day. And later, there’s a “Where Are They Now” segment, showing last year’s players in their new homes.

Of course, the goal is to have all the dogs on the field adopted, but they’ve taken this to a whole new level of cuteness with the big game and all the hoopla surrounding it.

Go team puppy!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Expanding the Puppy Bowl Franchise

We’ve been loving on those puppies and kittens at Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl for 13 years now, with the 14th annual show queued up for Super Bowl Sunday (February 4, 2018) at 3:00 pm. Since it’s been so popular, Animal Planet has expanded the concept to include senior dogs with the first ever Dog Bowl airing tonight at 8 pm. Dogs over the age of seven will compete, but they all win because they’ll be finding forever homes. The video from Baltimore’s CBS affiliate shows a few of the contenders.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Puppy Bowl XII

Mark your calendar and set your DVR! The Puppy Bowl returns February 7th (that’s THIS Sunday!) at 3 pm Eastern Time. If you’re not familiar with it, Puppy Bowl runs every year on Animal Planet on Super Bowl Sunday, in an attempt to get puppies adopted from many shelters across the country. In small groups, the puppies are placed in a small arena made to look like a football field. They play and romp, and sometimes even fall asleep on the field. Meanwhile, an announcer natters on as if the dogs are actually competing. When a puppy happens to stumble across the goal line, a touchdown is scored. It’s all really very cute, and an enjoyable way to spend 2 hours while waiting for the game to start. Here’s what Animal Planet has to say about this year’s show: Continue reading Puppy Bowl XII

Animal Planet Gears Up for the Super Bowl

I just love watching Animal Planet while I wait for the Super Bowl to start. I knew the 11th Annual Puppy Bowl would be on this afternoon, but I was flipping through channels this morning and came upon another show that I hope will be an annual competition for them.

The show was called America’s Cutest Dogs, and it was a compilation of cute dog videos from the Internet. My favorite one is shown here, but it didn’t even place among the finalists.

Puppy Bowl MVP

Are you watching any of Puppy Bowl IX on Animal Planet? This year, you can vote for the most valuable player here. There have already been 3 touchdowns, and it’s very early in the game yet!

@MeepTheBird is live-tweeting the event, and there is a live stream camera in the locker room.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing the Bowl, here’s how Animal Planet describes the show:
The biggest event on all fours is back! Puppy Bowl returns for its ninth consecutive year with an all-star, all-adorable cast that’s ready to mix it up on the grand gridiron of Animal Planet Stadium. Puppy Bowl IX brings viewers a loveable lineup that’s itching to play in a winning combination of terrier tackles, touchdowns, puppy penalties, fumbles and Fido first downs. Featuring fan favorites like the Water Bowl Cam, tail-gating fans, and the hamster-steered blimp, this year’s big game is sure to be a tail-wagger. For the first time ever, viewers can see slow motion replays with the new Cute Cam. And be on the lookout for the hedgehog cheerleaders. Also, don’t miss the debut of the puppy hot tub, where puppy players can cool down after tearing up the field. From barking beagles and spunky spaniels to everything in between, we’ve got the cutest players taking the field on the most action-packed Sunday of the year. Plus, back for another year is the popular Bissel Kitten Halftime Show, guaranteed to bring the house down! And, sideline reporter “Meep the Bird” will return to tweet live updates throughout the game. Follow @MeepTheBird on game day for the latest news, puppy penalties and behind-the-scenes moments from inside the stadium.

I call it good clean fun!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Puppy Bowl VII Ratings

Animal Planet is reporting record ratings for this year’s Puppy Bowl.  1.7 million people tuned in to the premier broadcast (up from 1.1 last year), and after five subsequent re-airings, a total of 9.2 million people saw it in all.

I liked it okay – it was really cute…for awhile.  But really, it’s just two hours of puppies running around playing on an indoor football field.  I can’t imagine over 9 million of us had nothing better to do, but what do I know?

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!
