I think Mitt Romney took his dog for a car ride again

Photo: Washington Post
The Associated Press is reporting today that animal welfare authorities in Rhode Island are saying that a “fluffy white pooch” survived a trip from Massachusetts wedged under the front grill of a Toyota sedan. The driver apparently didn’t even know the dog had been hit and was wedged under the grill until a motorist in East Providence pointed her out.

So, if you live somewhere in Massachusetts & are missing a female poodle mix, please call authorities and let them know that your dog did NOT have permission for a road trip! BTW, your dog is now suffering a concussion and maybe a bladder rupture, but is otherwise no worse for wear.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Puppy Shot and Killed on Family’s Front Porch

WNDU Video on Demand –

WNDU in Indiana is reporting on a tragic case of “he said / she said” in Hamlet. When a police officer stopped by the house to ask a few questions about a car parked nearby on the street, the homeowner stepped out on the porch with his five-month old Boxer puppy.

The police officer said the “pit bull” charged him, while the family says he simply barked before the officer pulled his gun and started shooting at the dog. After five shots, the dog still wasn’t dead, so the family asked the officer to please put him out of his misery. A final shot to the head took care of it.

Although the officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the police department, neighbors aren’t so sure. They’ve posted signs supporting the family and mourning the loss of the dog.

Obviously, none of us were there and don’t know what really happened. It’s just sad all the way around.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Saturday Survey: Dealing with Aggressive Dogs

We’ve talked a lot about not punishing a dog for being aggressive if the dog is taught to be that way by his or her owner. During this past week, we published a post about a man who received a 1-year prison sentence after his dogs attacked ten people. Is this the right way to deal with the problem?

Check out this story from Temuco, Chile: when this mama dog and her puppies were caught in a house fire, she simply carried the pups out to the fire truck for safe-keeping! Unfortunately, one of the puppies later died from severe burns sustained in the fire. What a brave mama dog to have kept going back into the fire until all of her babies were accounted for.

Here’s the original story & more pictures on SoyChile.cl, as well as an English summary from Huffington Post.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Tender Moment Between Man And His Arthritic Dog In Lake Superior

In case you haven’t seen this beautiful photo making the rounds online lately I wanted to share it with you.  It’s a photo of John Unger cradling his 19-year-old rescue dog Schoep (named after a famous Wisconsin ice cream) in Lake Superior.  Schoep has arthritis and the pain makes it hard for him to fall asleep, so his loving owner takes him into the water and gently cradles him, and the dog trusts him enough to fall asleep in the water.

Apparently Lake Superior is quite warm this time of year and the warmth and buoyancy helps the dog relax enough to fall asleep.  What a beautiful act of love and kindness this man gives his faithful companion.

Do take a moment to read the full story behind the photo, it will make your day.
