Big Happenings at the Stark County Dog Warden’s Office

There’s nothing like being in a room full of dog lovers. That was the scene at the North Canton Public Library yesterday morning when Stark County Dog Warden Jon Barber spoke to a group of concerned residents about changes he’s made over the past year at the Dog Warden’s Office and Shelter. Even the name is new. It used to be the pound.

This event was another in the week-long series called Doggone North Canton, presented by Pawsitive Ohio.

Why should you read on if you’re not in Stark County? Many of the lessons learned here can be applied to your location, making sure more dogs are treated humanely and increasing adoption rates at all facilities.

EXCELLENT article (although a little long) on National Geographic about military working dogs.

A great big wag of the doggies.com tail to all of our veterans, both human and canine, as well as to those who are still serving, on this Memorial Day 2014. We appreciate your service and sacrifice.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Controversy at 2014 Crufts Show

What do you do if your show dog has flyaway hair? At most dog shows, you would simply use hair spray to keep the fur in place during the show. However, outdated Crufts rules outlaw the use of any artificial enhancers such as hairspray or the chalk some handlers use to make white dogs appear whiter.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, opponents who organised themselves into a group called the “Elnett revolutionaires”, after a brand of hairspray, said that sending a Poodle into competition without hairspray was “like Miss World being made to go on without her make-up.”

Judges had spot-checked dogs to enforce the rules in past years, but have suspended such checks for the 2014 shows. New rules are expected to be implemented before next year’s show, allowing both hairspray and chalk.

Shwew! I was worried there for a minute!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
