I always enjoy Jeanne Moos’ features on CNN. I can’t believe it wouldn’t let me embed the video, but you can check it out on CNN.
Until next time,

From my Facebook feed: Cleo’s Pumpkin Dog Biscuits
2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons dry milk
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 1/2 cups brown rice flour *
1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
Preheat oven to 350.
In large bowl, whisk together eggs and pumpkin to smooth. Stir in dry milk, sea salt, and dried parsley (if using, optional). Add brown rice flour gradually, combining with spatula or hands to form a stiff, dry dough. Turn out onto lightly floured surface (can use the brown rice flour) and if dough is still rough, briefly knead and press to combine.
Roll dough between 1/4 – 1/2″ – depending on your dog’s chew preferences, – and use biscuit or other shape cutter to punch shapes, gathering and re-rolling scraps as you go. Place shapes on cookie sheet, no greasing or paper necessary. If desired, press fork tines into biscuits to make holes on shaft of bone before baking, a quick up-and-down movement with fork, lightly pressing down halfway through dough. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven and carefully turn biscuits over, then bake additional 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely on rack before feeding to dog.
* Brown rice flour gives the biscuits crunch and promotes better dog digestion. Many dogs have touchy stomachs or allergies, and do not, like many people I know, tolerate wheat.
Makes up to 75 small (1″) biscuits or 50 medium biscuits

First Lady Michelle Obama thinks Sunny will follow her brother Bo’s footsteps, “We suspect Sunny will follow in Bo’s footsteps and keep the President company in the Oval Office, go for walks with the First Family after their 6:30 family dinner and even jump up on the First Lady’s lap from time to time!”
The Portuguese Water Dog, a hypoallergenic dog, works great for the Obamas and people with dog allergies. Click to view other allergy friendly hypoallergenic breeds.

The Associated Press recently featured a story by Linda Lombardi about traveling with her two Pugs to Rehoboth Beach in the great state of Delaware. Her description of the place reminded me so much of the charming little town of Oakville, where we’ve stayed a couple of times while visiting Toronto.

The Marmaduke comic strip is written by a distant relative of mine, so I always check it out in the funny papers. At the end of the Sunday strip, they always add a “Dog Gone Funny” feature, telling about something a reader sent in. Yesterday’s segment really struck my funny bone because I could so see any of my dogs doing this.

Marley’s Mutts in Kern County, California is asking for your help. They recently took in Hooch (who is named, I presume after the movie “Turner and Hooch”, one of my all-time faves.) But I digress.
From their website: We rescued Hooch from the Bakersfield Shelter on Monday. It was obvious that his ears had been recently cut off (not cropped but butchered), he was severely malnourished, suffered from a terrible Upper Respiratory Infection and had several lacerations around his mouth and what appeared to be a broken or dislocated jaw. When we examined him today to ready him for x-ray, we discovered that his tongue, much like his ears, had been cut off.

Meet Ben! This beautiful dog raced under the name of Tobin Frost, and is now living in South Carolina courtesy of Greyhound Crossroads. He is said to be good with children, but not tolerant of cats or small dogs. Here’s what their website has to say about him.
